Article 1 : Overnight discharges from NHS hospitals to be examined

Overnight discharges from NHS hospitals to be examined

After a lot of research people in the UK found out that a lot of people get discharged in the hospitals in the middle of the night between 23.00 and 6.00. The BBC asked 170 NHS hospitals if this was true , but only 100 responded. They discharge a lot of people in the night , because they need to free up beds. Sir Bruce thinks this is crazy and he says people only need to be discharged when it is safe and responsible. People who have overcome this can send a letter or call to The Patients Association.

I think it is ridicules that people who are laying in the hospital have to be discharged in the middle of the night. It is not safe for that person to go home around that time. I do understand that hospitals need to free up beds, but not on this way. We have to think about the importance from the patient. It’s  better to send them home early in the morning around 8 o clock instead of the night.

  1. Hello Sharona,

What an interesting news item. I do not think it is responsable to discharge people in the middle of the night, I think those times are not okay for a lot of people. The hospital indeed should be able to plan when a patient has to be discharged also in order for the patient an his or her family to prepare for it.

    Kind regards,
